Patty Gasso has two kids named JT Gasso and DJ Gasso. JT is an assistant softball coach for the Sooners while DJ coaches the Utah Utes softball team.
Both the Gasso boys have followed in their mother’s footsteps. Patty is a renowned softball coach for the Oklahoma Sooners since 1995.
Besides her coaching career, she also played softball at California State University. Patty joined the University of Oklahoma after coaching at Long Beach City College for four years.
Gasso established herself as one of the top collegiate softball coaches by turning the OU softball program into a national strength.
Under her guidance, Oklahoma won the national championship six times and went to the Women’s College World Series fourteen times.
Patty was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The legendary coach reached a special milestone when Oklahoma beat East Carolina for her 1,000th victory as the team’s head coach in 2015.
Patty Gasso married her husband Jim Gasso on 21 June 1986. Patty and Jim first met at Long Beach State University.
They both got connected through sports, where Jim was a defensive back football player and Patty was a junior shortstop on the softball team.
The couple took classes together and both pursued degrees in physical education. After their nuptials, Patty and Jim relocated to Norman when Patty accepted the position at Oklahoma University.
However, Jim returned to Fullerton, California in search of another coaching position as the pay was less. As Jim returned to California, Patty was also prepared to leave her position and go home with her hubby.
For the first time in the history of the program, Gasso guided the Sooners to a national title, and her pay increased.
When Patty was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame she thanked Jim for guiding her and keeping her grounded.
Jim is the owner of Intencity Sports Training Academy in Norman, Oklahoma. He grew up with his father Roberto in Los Angeles.
Jim previously worked as an assistant at the Bishop McGuinness baseball team. He has also volunteered as a strength and conditioning coach for Patty’s team.
After impressing in his role as an assistant coach for a baseball team, he was then hired to coach the Irish softball team.
Jim expressed interest in the position after Gary Savely, the athletic director, informed him that the team required a new softball coach.

JT and DJ both are involved in sports and they both have a similar interest in softball. JT is the firstborn son of Patty and Jim.
According to Patty, her older child memorized every player’s number she has ever coached.
JT is an assistant softball coach at the University of Oklahoma since 2015. He works with the OU’s outfielders and the Sooner offense.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from East Central University. Moreover, he earned his Master’s Degree in Arts from the University of Oklahoma.
Before working as an assistant softball coach for Oklahoma he was a volunteer assistant softball coach. JT then worked with Purdue University and Michigan State University as an assistant softball coach for one year.
Gasso created one of the most successful offenses in the country in 2019 as the Sooners led the nation in battle, home run, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
He was a crucial member of the OU staff that received the award for the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
Talking about his personal life, JT is married to volunteer softball coach Andrea Harrison and has three children.
Andrea is the Volunteer Softball Coach at the University of Oklahoma. She studied History at the University of California, Los Angeles.
DJ is an associate head softball coach at the University of Utah. He is in his third season with Utah as the team’s hitting coach.
He spent the previous two seasons working as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma before joining the staff in June 2020. In his first season in 2021, DJ had a significant impact on the Utah team.
According to his LinkedIn account, he completed his associate degree in general studies from Hutchinson Community College.
He did his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Bradley University and Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Besides his sports career, he is also actively involved in volunteering activities. He volunteers for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Vs. Cancer Foundation, and AdoptAClassroom.
Gasso loves kids and with the help of his volunteering, he has been able to improve children’s lives in a variety of ways.
DJ engaged Grace Lauren on July 29, 2020, and tied the knot on June 14, 2021. Grace is the owner of the clothing store Glory Prom.
Patty Gasso mother Janet Froehlich worked as a central services technician. She was born on May 27, 1962, in Los Angeles, California.
Patty spent her childhood playing softball with her mom and two siblings. Janet was a single mom who raised her three children and introduced the softball game since they lived close to a big park with a softball field.
Gasso stated that her passion for coaching is inherited from her mother. In her childhood days, Patty along with her sister and brother used to get strict instructions from Janet.
Froehlich used to tell them to play in Normandale Park until she got home from work. She even used to call the park manager and ask whether he had seen her kids.
Janet and Patty used to spend time together watching sports. The Sooners coach is indebted to her momma for all the learnings and inspiration.
Currently, Patty has her own family and she is the grandmother of Ava June Gasso, Joseph Gasso, and Grace Gasso.
